Folder types

Pangolin's Interactive Messaging Unlimited (IMU) system contains a program (also called IMU) that handles messages. The interface works like Microsoft Outlook.

Messages come into the IMU program via the cellular modem, pass through any automated content filters, and then go into one of 13 different folders. These folders are created automatically by IMU.

You can not edit the names of these folders, nor can you create your own folders. These folders have been specifically designed for the task of mobile message administration.

This screen shot shows the message-handling screen. Right now, the Inbox folder is open; it contains four messages. The selected message (#1, from jBird) is highlighted. A window at the bottom allows the moderator to edit this message before moving it to the Display Queue folder.

Here is a listing of the folders, and their role in message handling.

All messages

This is a special folder that actually shows all messages in all folders. Each message is color coded, so that you can see which folder it normally belongs in. The All messages folder is useful to find all messages sent from a particular user, or all messages that occurred during a certain time frame, etc. Generally the All messages folder is used in conjunction with the sorting ability of the message list. Again, just click on one of the column headers to sort by that column.

Inbox

The Inbox is where all messages arrive for processing. If the Filter settings are set for fully automatic processing, messages may never actually appear in the Inbox because they will be automatically forwarded to the Display queue or Blocked folder. However, if the Filter settings are set for one of the manual modes, then messages will appear in the Inbox where they can be screened and either blocked or forwarded to the display.

Display queue

The Display queue is where messages are placed when they are ready for display in either video or laser. Messages are automatically extracted from the Display queue by VMU or LivePRO.

Display archive

The Display archive contains all messages that have already been displayed.

Blocked

The Blocked folder contains all messages that were blocked for one reason or another. Messages may be blocked if the sender is specially blocked by the Sender filter, or if the sender is banned in the Users list, or if the message contains offensive content. Messages may also be blocked if a Voting session was in progress and duplicated votes were sent by a user when the Allow duplicates voting option was disabled.

User profile

The User profile folder contains messages that were sent in by users to change their profile. Users may send messages to change their nickname, text color, picture and subscription status.

Outbox

The Outbox is where messages are temporarily stored by IMU that are waiting to be sent. Normally, messages do not stay in the Outbox for very long, and they will be sent when it is convenient for IMU to do so.

Sent

The Sent folder contains all messages that were sent by IMU. Typically these would be Welcome messages, Warning messages, or Bulk messages.

Deleted

The Deleted folder contains any messages that were manually deleted by the operator. When a new message comes in, you have the choice of displaying it, blocking it, or deleting it. If you press the Delete button, messages will go into the Deleted folder.

System

The System folder contains internal messages that occur between IMU and the message receiving/sending devices (modems). These messages are generally part of internal self-test operations.

Voting

The Voting folder contains any voting-related messages that were received from users when a voting session was in progress. The messages in this folder can be used as an audit trail, to verify that the voting was fair and accurate.

DJ

The DJ folder contains any messages sent by users that begin with the DJ keyword. Users may send messages to IMU, not for the purpose of display, but instead to request that the DJ play a certain song, or start a promotion.

Alert (Critical)

The Alert messages folder contains any critical messages that were received with one of the Alert keywords present.
