There are a virtually unlimited number of applications,
campaigns and promotions that can make use of
mobile messaging and video. A few of them are discussed below.
Voting
applications
 Voting applications are very popular and easy to
implement. In addition, voting applications require very little, if any,
screen real estate and so therefore you can have only a small window on
the screen that is occupied by the voting results and the rest of the
screen occupied by the main program material (reality TV show, music
video, soap opera, etc.).
Well-known voting examples include the American
Idol and Big Brother reality TV shows, and "battle of the bands" type
shows seen on MTV and other music television channels.

Chat applications
Chat applications are also very popular and can range in complexity
from simple chat-only TV channels to full Interactive Television. For
chat-only applications, the majority of the video display is occupied by
the chat window, with the rest of the screen occupied by instructions
about how the user signs up and participates in the chat. Chat-only
channels are seen in Europe cable television, especially during the
evening.
Although chat-only applications do exist, excitement and interactivity
can be increased by adding chat to a live video program. For example, chat
can be added to music videos, reality TV programs or professional sports
broadcasts where chatters can comment about the TV show they are watching
in real time.
Advertising using the Animated Bitmaps feature
 In
addition to the Voting and Chatting applications, video screen real estate
may also be occupied by Animated Bitmaps.
Each bitmap may have informational or
advertising content and this advertising may very well be the
revenue-generating element of the display. In other words, the chatting or
voting may be the thing that gets people to watch the display, but the
Animated Bitmap advertisements may be paid for by advertisers who want to
have their message seen by the viewers.
