Vegas, Nevada (April 18, 2005) -- A live, dating "chat channel" using
SMS text messaging is being used by
NVIDIA Corporation
to demonstrate interactive high-definition applications, at the
National Association of Broadcasters
2005 trade show.
Pangolin's Interactive
Messaging Unlimited (IMU) runs the chat channel demonstration, set
up by NVIDIA partner Alphabit. During the NAB show (April 18-21),
attendees can send SMS text messages to participate in a simulated dating
service that features video, messages, and animated ads.
"Chat channels
like this are popular money-makers in Europe and elsewhere. They are a fun
way for people to interact with each other over broadcast TV or cable
channels," says Pangolin president William R. Benner, Jr. "Pangolin's
IMU is so easy to use, that Alphabit set up this high-definition
broadcast demo for NVIDIA in less than a day."
NVIDIA's new
Quadro FX 4000 SDI card runs both standard-definition and high-definition
(HD) formats from a single solution. Using HD for Alphabit's demo gives
great-looking text and photo-quality video, making the dating service
simulation an ideal way to show off the advantages of NVIDIA's HD
abilities.
Pangolin is a
pioneer in interactive HD TV. IMU was used for the
first-ever interactive HD TV program in the U.S. last year. In October
2004, IMU ran the ground-breaking event, allowing
cell-phone users to send SMS text messages which were then broadcast on
the “INHD” cable channel.
The interactive program was a half-hour
lead-in to a live HD concert by Yellowcard, winners of the
2004 MTV2
viewer’s choice award.
The dating demo
at the NVIDIA booth at NAB 2005 continues Pangolin's pioneering work on
high-definition SMS displays. While IMU also works on standard
definition television, the ability to do HD showcases Pangolin's
