A live, dating "chat channel" using SMS text messaging
was used by
NVIDIA Corporation
to demonstrate interactive high-definition applications, at a National Association of Broadcasters
trade show.
Pangolin's Interactive
Messaging Unlimited (IMU) ran the chat channel demonstration, set
up by NVIDIA partner Alphabit. During the NAB show, attendees sent SMS text messages to participate in a simulated dating
service that features video, messages, and animated ads.
"Chat channels
like this are popular money-makers in Europe and elsewhere. They are a fun
way for people to interact with each other over broadcast TV or cable
channels," says Pangolin president William R. Benner, Jr. "Pangolin's
IMU is so easy to use, that Alphabit set up this high-definition
broadcast demo for NVIDIA in less than a day."
NVIDIA's Quadro FX 4000 SDI card runs both standard-definition and high-definition
(HD) formats from a single solution. Using HD for Alphabit's demo gives
great-looking text and photo-quality video, making the dating service
simulation an ideal way to show off the advantages of NVIDIA's HD
abilities.
Pangolin is a
pioneer in interactive HD TV. IMU was used for the
first-ever interactive HD TV program in the U.S. IMU ran the ground-breaking event, allowing
cell-phone users to send SMS text messages which were then broadcast on
the “INHD” cable channel.
The interactive program was a half-hour
lead-in to a live HD concert by Yellowcard, winners of the MTV2
viewer’s choice award.
The dating demo
at the NVIDIA booth at NAB continued Pangolin's pioneering work on
high-definition SMS displays. While IMU also works on standard
definition television, the ability to do HD showcased Pangolin's committment to professional level solutions for interactive providers such
as Alphabit.
ABOUT PANGOLIN’S
IMU
Interactive Messaging Unlimited
allows large-scale public displays of SMS text and picture messages. It
processes incoming messages and outputs them to video, for use in
venues such as concerts, nightclubs, trade shows, cable TV chat channels,
and special events. IMU can even control laser graphics projectors, to
create huge scrolling text messages on the sides of buildings or
mountains.
Pangolin’s IMU
is used at numerous wireless conferences and iHollywood events. During
presentations, audience members submit questions for the speakers, by
sending SMS text messages. These are displayed on video projectors, either
during the presentation itself or afterwards, during the Q&A session. Both
modes work extremely well, producing thoughtful questions
throughout the presentations.
ABOUT PANGOLIN
Pangolin is the world leader in laser
display systems. Over 80% of professional laser shows, worldwide, use
Pangolin’s Lasershow Designer 2000 system. LD2000 has won
more technical
and artistic international awards than all other laser display systems
combined.
Pangolin’s IMU system for SMS texting was
first implemented for laser projectors. It was later expanded to handle
video. A single IMU video screen can have various windows with live or
recorded video, SMS text messages, SMS voting polls, scrolling text,
advertising, and graphics. More information is at
