Pangolin demonstrates SMS interactive HDTV system at CTIA Wireless convention

PangolinSMS, a leading provider of SMS text and MMS picture messaging systems, demonstrated SMS Interactive HDTV applications at the CTIA Wireless convention in New Orleans, LA, giving live demos of its Interactive Messaging Unlimited (IMU) system.

PangolinSMS was also featured at the iHollywood Forum Mobile Entertainment Summit, providing up to four rooms of interactive Q&A and voting for the attendees. iHollywood Forum has invited PangolinSMS to exclusively participate in its events at major tradeshows nationwide.

The president of iHollywood Forum, Zahava Stroud, describes how the Summit worked: “Pangolin has added a vital interactive component -- our audience can use SMS to query from their seats and the speakers appreciate the convenience and feedback. Pangolin has smoothly handled the voting and speaker questions - and our audience of executives from carriers, handsets and content are the leaders in the industry. SMS Messaging at our conferences is always a big hit. Our audience loves seeing the practical applications of SMS. For many it’s the first time they have used messaging services in a group context, showing the huge potential for using SMS in corporate settings.”

Pangolin’s Interactive Messaging Unlimited (IMU) is a Windows program that lets anyone manage and display text messages. The messages come into a standard PC by connecting a cellular modem (included with IMU) or via a dedicated SMS message server. These messages are screened to remove any objectionable material and are queued in preparation to be displayed.

At iHollywood Forum events, questions from the audience are submitted via SMS. IMU receives the messages, which are then screened and queued by a live moderator. (IMU also has the option of doing this completely automated, so that no operator is required.) The resulting questions are displayed on a projection screen. As Stroud indicates, audience members and panelists find this to be very effective. The moderator can ensure no “repeat” questions, and the most interesting questions are listed first.

IMU includes the capability of running SMS chat sessions like the one used at various iHollywood Forum events, as well as voting/polling sessions, where SMS votes are tallied and displayed live. In addition, streaming video and animated advertisements can easily be added; in just a few minutes, anyone can make a complete interactive display. The resulting pro-quality screen is then video-projected at live events, or is broadcast on cable TV shows and chat channels. For example, the band “Yellowcard” had an IMU chat session broadcast in HD, just before a live TV concert. This IMU-run event was the first-ever use of interactive HDTV in the U.S.

A new feature of IMU, web chatting, allows SMS chatting over the Internet. A demonstration is at http://www.pangolinsms.com/product_web.htm. Additional information on other applications can be reached from the main page at http://www.pangolinsms.com.

IMU is helping bring SMS out of the phone-to-phone market, and into audience participation and public display,” stated Pangolin president William R. Benner, Jr. “At CTIA, we demonstrated how easy it is to create SMS opportunities at stadiums, festivals, trade shows, discos and nightclubs, and other special events.”

ABOUT PANGOLIN’S IMU

Interactive Messaging Unlimited allows large-scale public displays of SMS text and picture messages. It processes incoming messages and outputs them to video, for use in venues such as concerts, nightclubs, trade shows, cable TV chat channels, and special events. IMU can even control laser graphics projectors, to create huge scrolling text messages on the sides of buildings or mountains.

ABOUT PANGOLIN

Pangolin is the world leader in laser display systems. Over 80% of professional laser shows, worldwide, use Pangolin’s Lasershow Designer 2000 system. LD2000 has won more technical and artistic international awards than all other laser display systems combined.

Pangolin’s IMU system for SMS texting was first implemented for laser projectors. It was later expanded to handle video. A single IMU video screen can have various windows with live or recorded video, SMS text messages, SMS voting polls, scrolling text, advertising, and graphics.
